Daniel Jones is an artist and software engineer, making digital systems that translate patterns from the world around us into living musical forms. As one-half of [Jones/Bulley](https://www.jones-bulley.com/), this involves creating large-scale sound installations that generate music from real-time processes, ranging from weather patterns ([Variable 4](https://www.jones-bulley.com/variable4/), 2010-) to forest ecosystems ([Living Symphonies](https://www.jones-bulley.com/living-symphonies/), 2014-) to FM radio broadcasts ([Radio Reconstructions](https://www.jones-bulley.com/radio-reconstructions/), 2012-). Underpinning all of this work is a growing series of libraries which are freely available under open-source licenses.

[SignalFlow](https://github.com/ideoforms/signalflow) is an open-source audio DSP engine whose goal is to make it quick and intuitive to explore complex sonic ideas. Its core is C++11, with a full Python API, allowing for rapid prototyping (in Jupyter, PyCharm, or python CLI), efficient processing (with cross-platform hardware acceleration), and lots of built-in node classes for creative exploration. In this talk, I will take you through the principles behind SignalFlow, give a tour of its key components, show how it can be used in generative music and sonification, and (hopefully) give a demo of making a patch from scratch.

In this talk, Kyle will discuss the results of an analysis of interviews with 13 professional video game composers about their considerations and concerns about AI driven music technology and how this informs the ways we should be building AI tools if we want to see them adopted in the mainstream. Kyle will then discuss how this informed the development of his expressive rendering deep learning algorithm (Cue-Free Express), which allows non-expressive midi to be performed as if played by a human, with the goal of being a new 'Humanise' tool for composers.

NeuralNote - An audio-to-MIDI plugin using Machine Learning

Audio buffers are a fundamental container used in audio software development for storing and processing audio signals. This talk will give a brief overview of container design in C++, and will walk through an implementation of a new audio buffer class from scratch. Supplementary classes including a buffer "view" class will be presented as well as C++ "iterator" types to simply the process of iterating through an audio buffer.
